Hotel Hershey has Big Addition Plans for 75th Anniversary

The AAA Four Diamond Hotel Hershey has revealed some sweet plans for the elegant lady on the hill for her 75th birthday.

Celebrating the 75th anniversary of its doors opening May 23, 1933, plans are under way to build a new entrance, outside activities areas including a year-round ice-skating facility and pool, and cottages to compliment the 230 hotel rooms.

Construction of this multi-million dollar expansion will begin in June and is to be completed in 2009. Among the highlights of the plans are a $1 million to $3 million recreational campus that will include a children's clubhouse, basketball, bocce, croquet, shuffleboard, tennis and volleyball courts, an 18-hole golf putting course, hiking trails and a year-round ice skating rink. A new arrival pattern will lead guests into the parking lot from the front, rather than the side of the building, for a grand entrance. This project, with an estimated cost of $7 million to $8 million, will include the enlarging of the porte cochere, expanded parking and landscaping.

The Cottages in the Pines, which will cost between $13 million and $15 million, will be six four-bedroom and four six-bedroom cottages as well as a meeting cottage in the woods behind the hotel.

A new restaurant will be open year-round, will serve three meals a day and will overlook the new putting green. The renowned Circular Dining Room's restoration project has just been completed. Guests will immediately notice the new hand-painted ceiling mural that flows beautifully with the stained-glass windows. They may also notice the new temperature-controlled wine room on the left side when entering. The restaurant's wine list offers 350 labels. The Four Diamond Circular Dining Room also has newly painted walls, repaired stained glass, installed sun-blocking shades, new carpet, furniture and lighting.

In addition to the renovations, the hotel is celebrating with special events throughout 2008 including The 75th Anniversary Package at The Hotel Hershey, which includes a commemorative welcome gift, a two-night stay in the Milton Hershey Suite, breakfast for four each day, one-day admission for four to Hersheypark (if open during the stay), and a Hersheypark Sweet Access Pass, for $1,933, including tax, to honor the year the hotel opened.

The Spa at the Hotel Hershey is offering a Champagne and Caviar package including a 75-minute traditional massage, caviar facial and hand treatment and champagne lunch at the Oasis, for $394, including tax and gratuity. Others may enjoy the spa's signature Chocolate facial, which smells as good as it feels.
