My Summer Vacation.... by YOU!

We asked the AAA Central Penn staff to share their favorite summertime vacation memory. Here are a few. Scroll down to find out how you can share your summertime memories with AAA Central Penn and all the members!

  • Walt Disney’s "Haunted Mansion" and "Pirates of the Caribbean" get a split vote from me. My Dad and I experienced "The Haunted Mansion" the very first year it opened at Disneyland in Southern California and that will always be a special memory. Dad is generally more of a spectator when it comes to amusement parks, so it’s a bonus whenever we visit Walt Disney World in Orlando to know that these are two attractions he’ll enjoy with me. Good old Walt designed something for everybody.

  • Two of our best memories occurred in Disney parks. We had a great time at the Magic Kingdom in Orlando, and survived our "imprisonment" with Zorg. We also had a breathtaking roller coaster ride on "California Screamin'" at Disney's California Adventure Park. We like going to the parks in the morning when it's still cool, return to the hotel at lunchtime to relax by the pool and take a nap, then return to the parks in the early evening when everything is not as crowded. Then, we can ride twice as many attractions in half the amount of time!

  • My "Memory Book" is filled with many special summer vacations - trips to the beach, Niagara Falls, a mission trip to Nova Scotia - but my trip to Alaska in the summer of 1998 helped me fulfill a promise I made to my father before he passed away in 1996. My father was stationed in Aleutian Islands with the Army Air Corp during World War II and spent a lot of time in Fairbanks and Anchorage. He often said that after he retired he "wanted to go back and see all the changes" but his health did not allow for that dream to come true. One day when he was reminiscing about fishing for salmon and flying over the glaciers, I told him that I would go to Alaska and take lots of pictures so he could "see all the changes." Unfortunately, he passed away before I had a chance to go. Two years later, I felt Dad’s presence while I was enjoying all the "new" sights and sounds of the beautiful and pristine Alaska.

  • I was with my husband at Six Flags Great Adventure. He did not think I was going to get on King Da Ka. I was thinking the same about him. It’s currently the tallest fastest ride in the world. From the ground it looks a little scary but then you think it can't be that bad because it’s over in a matter of seconds. The worst part is being strapped in that seat waiting. They ease you out past the podium and you sit on the track for what seems like forever but I was told it’s only about 4 seconds then they sling shoot (it goes 141 mph) up the hill to nothing but blue sky and then as you head over the hill feeling like you lost 100 pounds you slightly cork screw looking like you are headed straight to the pavement before you level out again. It’s one of the best rides I’ve ever been on. It wasn’t crowded when we went so we got to ride three times. By the third time I was feeling like a pro but did not feel the urge to ride anymore my heart and body had enough. The normal wait time is 2-3 hours.
