AAA Central Penn Sells E-ZPass Transponder

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is using E-ZPass in full force and AAA Central Penn is making it easy to obtain and use.

Members can stop in at any of the AAA branch locations to purchase an E-ZPass transponder, attach it to the car and go. There’s no waiting for activation of the transponder or for it to arrive in the mail.

The E-ZPass transponder, no larger than a deck of cards, is easy to install on your windshield behind your rear view mirror with the included Velcro. On a few vehicles, it is mounted on the bumper. When you enroll, it will be determined which transponder type your vehicle will need. As you enter the E-ZPass Lane, a green light indicates your signal has been read and records where you entered the turnpike. When you exit the E-ZPass Lane, a green light indicates your pre-paid account has been charged the appropriate amount. No more stopping at toll booths to get tickets, pay tolls, look for change or asking for receipts. All your transactions are available at paturnpike.com and kept online for 120 days. The transponder can be used on multiple vehicles when you register the license plates on your account. This allows the user to move the transponder between vehicles. The E-ZPass can be used anywhere you see E-ZPass signs. This includes the Pennsylvania Turnpike from Ohio to New Jersey and the Northeast Extension. In addition to Pennsylvania, your PA E-ZPass is accepted in 10 other states including Delaware, Illinois, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Virginia and West Virginia. Ohio plans to add the program in the near future.

"We’re excited about the program," said Joseph G. Brimmeier, CEO of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. "People are getting it now who say they only use the Turnpike a couple of times a year. But they can use it in surrounding states."

E-ZPass transponders are available to purchase with a credit card only. Cost is $41 for members, $43 for non-members. Visit your local AAA Central Penn branch for details.
