Next Stop: Venice, for Gallery dePaul / AAA Travel Third Annual Creative Workshop Series

First it was Paris. Then the Tuscany region of Italy. And now for 2008 Gallery dePaul teams again with AAA Travel to host A Workshop in Venice developed for adventurous spirits who want to combine travel with creativity.

Not a typical tour or vacation, A Workshop in Venice is a ?creative adventure? designed by K. H. Klein, fine art photographer and gallery director to encourage participants to explore new ways of expressing themselves through photography.

A Workshop in Venice is built on the same principle as the previous workshops. Focused on the creative rather than the technical aspects of photography, Klein helps participants - through daily assignments, individual critiques, and one-on-one time - find their unique way of seeing so that the images they capture on their journey are their own personal stories and not merely tourist snapshots.

Klein's intimate knowledge of the locales she chooses for the workshop destinations make this up-close and personal approach possible. For years she has traveled extensively through Italy and France as a way of connecting with her own creative vision and it was the interest expressed by so many who viewed her work from these journeys that prompted Klein to develop the workshop series.

To keep the concept and the resulting work fresh, Klein builds each workshop around the goal of getting the most of the location in which the workshop is based so that each workshop nets different visual possibilities and experiences. According to Klein, participants for the Venice Workshop can expect a "visual feast of magical color."

Venice is one of the few cities in the world that can be described as truly unique. Picturesque canals, gondolas, the magnificent Piazza San Marco - "Venice has it all," she stated.

Planned boat trips to the Lagoon Islands will provide participants with a welcomed visual break from the narrow streets of the city. Murano, celebrated for its glass, can be reached in a matter of minutes. Further north, Burano - the "lace" island - and Torcello will be well worth the ride for the workshop participants, both in adventure and in photo opportunities.

A Workshop in Venice offers participants both the security of being with a group AND the independence and flexibility of being able to discover each one's own personal Venice at their own pace. There is no prior experience needed, no expensive camera equipment required and is open to anyone interested in the creative process.

Trip includes two pre-workshop info meetings, all instruction, airfare, accommodations, breakfasts, "Welcome" and "Farewell" dinners, walking tour, opportunities for group meals, and much, much more.

A Workshop in Venice is scheduled for September 10 through September 18, 2008. For complete information, contact AAA Travel at 717-629-8998 or K. H. Klein at Gallery dePaul (717) 299-1631.
